Opelika Light and Power (OLP), a municipal utility and department of the City of Opelika, Alabama, chose Atlantic to install a Fiber-to-the-Home network. This network is capable of providing advanced smart-grid services to the utility and triple-play services to the community. These services include, but are not limited to, SCADA communications, automatic meter reading, power outage detection, automated distribution, load control, demand response, real-time data collection, remote connect/disconnect, and prepaid services. AEG was awarded the FTTH design/build project in 2011. The network covers 250 miles of plant and passes 13,000 homes. The project was completed in just under two years and within budget. The project is now complete and OPS is delivering services to its residents.
